Wednesday Evening Social Hour & Poster Session
This social hour is a much anticipated evening event each year at WALPA, and we are excited to bring it to this year’s joint lakes conference! After the first full day of sessions, enjoy cocktail bites, refreshments, and a cash bar while you engage with poster presenters, mingle with other lake enthusiasts, bid on premium prizes in the silent auction, and try your hand at winning something super neat in the raffle!

New this year: Thursday Evening River Cruise - FULL
We're excited to announce that we are hosting an evening boat cruise on the Willamette River on Thursday, October 10. Desiree Tullos (Oregon State University & OLA board member) and Kurt Carpenter (US Geological Survey) will speak about the issue of harmful algal blooms in the Ross Island Lagoon along the Willamette River. Passengers will board at 5:15 pm at the Portland Spirit dock at Caruthers Landing (Portland, OR) to set sail at 5:30 pm, and return to the dock at 8:00 pm. This is a ticketed event and will include a buffet dinner and a cash bar. Conference attendees can buy their ticket for $70.00 through the registration portal. Tickets are limited to up to one additional guest per conference attendee at the time of purchase.

Learning Workshops
On the morning of Friday, October 11 we will be hosting free, concurrent workshops led by state and regional experts. Registrants have the choice of attending either the HABs workshop or the AIS workshop. Workshops are open to all registrants regardless of registration type.
- The HABs workshop will provide an overview of monitoring, field sampling and laboratory analyses in both Oregon and Washington
- The AIS workshop will provide an overview of policies, monitoring, and management in both Oregon and Washington, in addition to hands-on identification of AIS
Convention Lodging - Important Details
Hotel Reservation and Parking
The conference hotel room block at University Place Hotel is available Tuesday October 8 through the morning of Friday October 11, 2024. To book your hotel room at the University Place Hotel at the OLA-WALPA group rate, call 1-866-845-4647 (choose menu option 1). The group rate is NOT available by booking through their website. Mention ‘Oregon Lakes Association’ or ‘Washington State Lake Protection Association’ and book by September 10th to receive the group rate of $100 + taxes/fees. Hotel room reservation includes full breakfasts and on-site parking.
For conference attendees without a hotel registration, on-site parking is $13 per day via the Parking Kitty kiosk or app.
